Arbitron Strengthens Portable People Meter Team to Coordinate U.S. and International Marketing Efforts 05.26.04

Jay Guyther Promoted to Senior Vice President of PPM Marketing for Global PPM Efforts

NEW YORK, May 26, 2004 – Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) will strengthen its Portable People Meter (PPM) marketing team with two key leadership changes in order to coordinate its U.S. and international marketing efforts.
Jay Guyther, 47, has been appointed senior vice president of PPM Marketing for the U.S. as well as internationally. Brad Bedford, 43, has been appointed vice president, International PPM Marketing.

“Jay will focus solely on PPM and work with the radio, television, cable and advertising communities as Arbitron works toward the potential deployment of our passive and personal ratings methodology. A key part of Jay’s responsibility will be to work with the radio industry to help address the issues and concerns the industry has as it considers a transition to electronic measurement,” said Owen Charlebois, president of U.S. Media Services, Arbitron. “Having managed Arbitron’s role in the first deployments of PPM for radio and television in Belgium and television in Canada, Jay is the ideal executive to lead our domestic and international marketing efforts.”

In this newly created position, Mr. Guyther will focus on identifying and prioritizing customer needs with respect to all ratings applications for the PPM worldwide and developing programs and initiatives to address these needs. In addition, he will act as a liaison between radio industry groups – including the Radio Advisory Council and Radio Advertising Bureau. Mr. Guyther will report directly to Owen Charlebois.

With over 25 years of radio industry experience, Mr. Guyther has been a driving force for the PPM. Most recently in 2003, he was responsible for the multi-country license agreement with TNS, one of the world’s leading marketing information and television audience measurement companies, to deploy the PPM system in select countries throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Previously, he served as the general manager of radio services at Arbitron, where he developed a plan to significantly increase Arbitron’s diary sample sizes by up to 70 percent and introduced two new services – Maximi$er® and MapMaker.

Mr. Guyther received his B.S. in Business Administration and M.B.A. in Marketing at Loyola College, Baltimore.

Mr. Guyther will continue to work closely with Mr. Bedford on key international PPM marketing efforts such as RAJAR in the U.K. and BBM in Canada. With more than two decades working with Arbitron’s advertising and broadcasting clients, Mr. Bedford will be responsible for all PPM marketing and client service activities for all international markets. Among his new responsibilities will be the negotiation of PPM licensing agreements.

“Brad has been a long-time leader at Arbitron and brings a wealth of broadcasting experience to our entire international activities,” said Pierre Bouvard, president, Arbitron New Ventures. “His experience and relationships in the media industry in many parts of the world will help us establish partnerships and customers. ”

A seasoned radio executive, Mr. Bedford has spent the last two decades in sales at Arbitron for radio stations and Internet Broadcasting. In 2003, he became a member of Arbitron’s international PPM team. Previously, Mr. Bedford served as the vice president of the Internet Broadcasting Services division. Mr. Bedford will report directly to Pierre Bouvard.

Mr. Bedford received his B.S. in Business Administration at University of Michigan of Ann Arbor.
