Arbitron and TNS Sponsor Australian Commercial Radio Awards for Second Year  09.08.03

Gold-Level Sponsorship by Media Measurement Partners Includes Support of Best Program Director Awards

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA September 6, 2003 — Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) and TNS Australia today announced their continuing support of the Australian radio industry through their gold-level sponsorship of the 2003 Australian Commercial Radio Awards. Part of their support includes sponsorship of awards that will be presented to the Best Program Directors.

“Commercial Radio Australia has done an outstanding job of raising the profile of the radio industry through this annual awards program,” said Jay Guyther, senior vice president, International PPM Marketing, Arbitron. “We are proud that this will be our second year supporting an event that recognises the professionalism and accomplishments of Australian radio.”

Commercial Radio Australia executive officer Joan Warner welcomed the continuing support of Arbitron and TNS as sponsors in a program that reflects the growing visibility and value of commercial radio to the Australian media community. “Sponsors are vital to making the award’s ceremony a prestigious event,” said Warner.

“We are particularly pleased to again sponsor an award that recognises the direct contribution program directors make to the success of a radio station,” said Guyther. “They create the environment that lets on-air personalities shine, while keeping the station working as a business. Every day program directors must balance creativity, common sense and hard work. They deserve their turn in the spotlight at the Commercial Radio Australia Awards.”

Overall, there are 28 Commercial Radio Australia Award categories and, in most cases, there are three awards given in each category based on the size of the market served. The winners are selected by a panel of expert judges. Finalists for the Best Program Director are:

Metropolitan stations:
Dean Pickering—Mix 101.1, Melbourne
Brian Ford—3Fox FM, Melbourne
Steve Mummery—6Mix 94.5, Perth

Provincial stations:
Steve Parsons—Wave FM, Wollongong

The Australian Commercial Radio Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 18, 2003, at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour.

Guyther and David Rogerson, Arbitron’s Australian consultant, will also actively participate in other Commercial Radio Australia events held in conjunction with the Awards, including a seminar for radio professionals and a luncheon on Friday, October 17, that benefits children's cancer research. “We look forward to meeting with the radio community and having the opportunity to demonstrate the latest advances in audience measurement and to share the insights made possible only with electronic measurement,” said Guyther.
