Fall 2007 National Regional Database (NRD) Diary-Only Support Information

Since Arbitron Portable People Meter™ data became the ratings “currency” in Philadelphia and Houston-Galveston, Arbitron had planned to deliver the Fall 2007 National Regional Database (NRD) as a combination of Diary and PPM™ data. However, to ensure that NRD software meets the industry’s high standards, additional development time is required.

For this reason, we postponed the delivery of the Fall 2007 Diary/PPM NRD data until August 2008. On March 18, we did deliver a Diary-only version of Fall 2007 NRD data on our usual delivery schedule. This version does not include data from Philadelphia or Houston-Galveston.

The data included in the Fall 2007 release cover those areas where Diary measurement is currency. Not included are:

The Philadelphia Metro
The entire Houston DMA^®

What This Means to Users:

The software will prevent users from selecting:
- Metros: Houston or Philadelphia
- Metro Groups containing either the Houston or Philadelphia Metros
- DMAs: Houston
- DMA Groups that contain the Houston DMA
- Counties from either the entire Houston DMA or Philadelphia Metro
- County Groups containing counties from either the entire Houston DMA or Philadelphia Metro
Users will be able to select the following, but need to proceed cautiously:
- Total U.S.
- Philadelphia DMA
- Philadelphia DMA in a DMA Group

These areas should not be used in a multiple book average containing Fall 2007.

Caution When Using Certain Geographies and Surveys

Remember, Fall 2007 does not include any data from the Philadelphia Metro or the entire Houston DMA. The examples below show what users will be getting if they use either Total U.S., Philadelphia DMA or the Philadelphia DMA in a DMA Group.

Survey Selected: Fall 2007 Geography: Total US

Result: Total U.S., but without data from the entire Houston DMA or the Philadelphia Metro.

Survey Selected: Fall 2007 averaged with another survey Geography: Total U.S.

Result: The Fall 2007 part of the average does not contain the Houston DMA or the Philadelphia Metro. The other survey will contain the entire US. This will cause the average to be skewed due to the different geographies in each survey.

For the other survey in the average, the numbers Philadelphia contributes to the DMA Group will be from the entire Philadelphia DMA.

This will cause the average to be skewed due to the different geographies in each survey.

Station Selection

In many cases you will find Philadelphia and Houston stations in the Fall 2007 NRD release.
Houston stations will appear if they have listening outside of the Houston DMA.
Philadelphia stations will appear if they have listening outside of the Philadelphia Metro.
Because the Philadelphia Metro, Houston Metro, and Houston DMA geographies have been removed from the data, users will not be able to search by these geographies when selecting stations.
- Houston stations will show blanks in the Metro and DMA columns of the station selection screen.
- Philadelphia stations will show blanks in the Metro column of the station selection screen.
- You can search for these stations by call letters.
- Helpful hint: to select Houston or Philadelphia stations, use a previous survey. Once you have your stations selected, switch your survey to Fall 2007.
