Since Arbitron Portable People Meter™ data became the ratings “currency” in Philadelphia and Houston-Galveston, Arbitron had planned to deliver the Fall 2007 National Regional Database (NRD) as a combination of Diary and PPM™ data. However, to ensure that NRD software meets the industry’s high standards, additional development time is required.
For this reason, we postponed the delivery of the Fall 2007 Diary/PPM NRD data until August 2008. On March 18, we did deliver a Diary-only version of Fall 2007 NRD data on our usual delivery schedule. This version does not include data from Philadelphia or Houston-Galveston.
The data included in the Fall 2007 release cover those areas where Diary measurement is currency. Not included are:
These areas should not be used in a multiple book average containing Fall 2007.
Remember, Fall 2007 does not include any data from the Philadelphia Metro or the entire Houston DMA. The examples below show what users will be getting if they use either Total U.S., Philadelphia DMA or the Philadelphia DMA in a DMA Group.
Result: Total U.S., but without data from the entire Houston DMA or the Philadelphia Metro.
Result: The Fall 2007 part of the average does not contain the Houston DMA or the Philadelphia Metro. The other survey will contain the entire US. This will cause the average to be skewed due to the different geographies in each survey.
| Example Philadelphia Station | Cume Persons |
|---|---|
| SP07 (Total U.S.) | 1,000,000 |
| FA07 (Total U.S. listening not from the Philly Metro or Houston DMA) | 60,000 |
| FA07/SP07 Average | 530,000 |
Result: The number shown will only reflect those counties that are in the Philadelphia DMA, but not in the Philadelphia Metro.
Result: The Fall 2007 part of the average does not contain those counties that are in the Philadelphia Metro. The other survey will contain the entire Philadelphia DMA, including the Metro counties. This will cause the average to be skewed due to the different geographies in each survey.
| Example Philadelphia Station | Cume Persons |
|---|---|
| SP07 (Entire DMA) | 500,000 |
| FA07 (Only those counties that are in the DMA, but not in the Metro) | 20,000 |
| FA07/SP07 Average | 260,000 |
Result: The numbers from Philadelphia contributed to the DMA Group will only be those from counties that are in the Philadelphia DMA, but not in the Philadelphia Metro.
| Example Philadelphia Station DMA Group of the Philadelphia DMA + New York DMA | Cume Persons |
|---|---|
| New York DMA (Entire DMA) | 5,000 |
| Philadelphia DMA (Only those counties that are in the DMA, but not in the Metro) | 20,000 |
| FA07 Result | 25,000 |
Result: For the Fall 2007 part of the average, the numbers Philadelphia contributes to the DMA Group will only be from those counties that are in the Philadelphia DMA, but not in the Philadelphia Metro.
For the other survey in the average, the numbers Philadelphia contributes to the DMA Group will be from the entire Philadelphia DMA.
This will cause the average to be skewed due to the different geographies in each survey.
| Example Philadelphia Station DMA Group of the Philadelphia DMA + New York DMA | Cume Persons |
|---|---|
| SP07: Philadelphia DMA (Entire DMA) + New York DMA | 175,000 |
| FA07: Philadelphia DMA (Only those counties that are in the DMA, but not in the Metro) + New York DMA | 25,000 |
| FA07/SP07 Result | 100,000 |
