The most important thing radio station sales managers can do to reduce staff turnover is provide one-on-one training to account executives, according to the Arbitron and coLearn study "What Are Your Salespeople Thinking?" The study found that while radio account executives are generally satisfied with their jobs, they do have a number of issues. The need for more in-depth training was cited repeatedly by study participants. In addition, 70 percent of those surveyed reported that they have had to turn down business because their station's advertising inventory was sold out. Account executives reported that they believed this erased many of the financial gains they had made in the marketplace.
